News at The Nurtury

Community building is important to us so whenever we get a chance to do so, we make sure we take the whole school with us.  Our Annual Nurtury Halloween Parade occurred on Tuesday, October 31st.  The weather was not very cooperative at first but luckily it was dry by the time we marched out on Ventura Boulevard and visited our local businesses for some trick-or-treating.  Many of the businesses around our school have been in the community for more than twenty years.  We are grateful that we are able to share our annual tradition with them and we are also thankful that they look forward to seeing us each year and handing out some goodies to the children.  Thank you Sherman Oaks local business owners, we appreciate all of you!

Every fall, we hold our Annual Hop-A-Thon & Halloween Party Fundraising Event.  Families, current students, alumni and special guests come and dress up in their favorite costumes.  It is so much fun to see children enjoy a backyard style gathering with their friends.  This is also a chance for families to get to know each other and also a few prospective ones.  Events like this one allow for community building and to enjoy a relaxing time with each other.  We would like to thank our gracious host, the Farrell-Curtis family, our of our committee chairs and members, our staff, our donors and everyone else who made this event a successful one.  All funds raised will pay for fun, educational enrichment materials to enrich our indoor and outdoor areas as well as our scholarship fund.

Fall is a busy time at The Nurtury and our annual Pumpkin Patch Field trip kicks off all the fun and excitement. The Pumpkin Patch that we normally go to each year no longer exists so we went to Tina’s Pumpkin Patch for the first time this year.  It was a lot bigger than we were used to with bounce houses, petting zoo and train rides!  At The Nurtury, we value our local community and enjoy getting to know our area by walking around and visiting different businesses for field trips.  This experience allowed us to walk around our local community and ride the local bus.  There was so much excitement around the local bus ride on the way to and back along with the train ride experience at the Pumpkin Patch.  Thank you to all our volunteers for joining us on this warm fall day and to Tina’s Pumpkin Patch for accommodating our visit on a different day!

Back-To-School Night 2017

Summer is officially over and a new school year has officially started.   Each year, during the first week of October, we hold our annual Back-To-School Night for our all of our families.  This is a chance for parents to learn more about our curriculum and any additional topics or focus they may include during the year.  We have a child-centered curriculum and program so our approach to teaching concepts vary every year based on the interests and developmental growth of the children currently enrolled in the class.  This also allows for new and returning families to get to know each other.  The small group discussion for each class enables families to ask very specific questions about their child’s class and also interact with their child’s teacher/s.  Aside from our philosophy and curriculum, Back-To-School Night also offers information about age-specific skills such as self-help, social-emotional, language, cognitive/problem-solving, gross and fine motor, Kindergarten-readiness, parent-teacher conferences, partnering with the school and teachers; and many more.

Summertime At The Nurtury

So much to do and so little time!  Summertime gets very busy at The Nurtury with all of our walking field trips, Art Fest, Pick-Up N’ Play, Watermelon Party, Sand Castle day, etc.  In such a modern world we live in, we want to create an environment similar to the feel of a backyard or home-life moments while the children enjoy being who they are at such a young age.  Our Watermelon Party is a perfect example of this backyard and home-life experience.  You can even include scientific concepts such as gravity; when the children sees the watermelon being dropped into the plastic pools.  Our walking field trips keep the children active during the summer time aside from their regular outdoor activities.  This also allows us to visit our local businesses and continue to be active members of our community.
